The 4^th International Workshop on Flow-Induced Blood Damage in Rotating Systems (BDW2024) has been a great success.
It took place on the 5^th and 6^th of September 2024 in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany.

After the first edition in 2019, its second version in 2022 and the third time in 2023, the workshop provided again a productive discussion platform for the research community working on flow-induced blood trauma. Attendance doubled from the first workshop, with participants from the United Kingdom, Italy, China, USA and Germany. The participants represented a number of fascinating fields, including haemolysis prediction, cell migration, downsizing of total artificial hearts (TAH), and flow-induced stresses on cells in rotary blood pumps and ventricular assist devices (VAD).

Highlights of this year's workshop included presentations by Dr. Katharine Fraser from the University of Bath, UK, as well as Professor Peng Wu via online transmission both of whom are well-known in their fields of research. For the first time the event was also transmitted via zoom for international participants from the USA.

To emphasize the nature of the workshop, there was a discussion round on our hemolysis test case that the BDW community is currently developing.

A special feature of our two-day workshop was the focus on flow-induced blood damage. Unlike classic conferences, where this topic is often limited to one session with a small timeframe, each presentation in this workshop was designed to stimulate discussion in our research area with 20 minutes of lecture and 25 minutes of discussion.
